Homemade Air Fryer Onion Rings
A healthier and tastier version of the frozen favorite.
Ingredients:
- 2 large onions
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Cooking spray
Instructions:
Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
Prepare the Onions: Peel the onions and cut them into 1/2-inch thick slices. Carefully separate the rings.
Prepare the Coating: In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. In another dish, beat the eggs. Place the breadcrumbs in a third dish.
Coat the Onion Rings: Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, then into the beaten eggs, and finally into the breadcrumbs, ensuring they are evenly coated. Place the coated onion rings on a plate.
Air Fry the Onion Rings: Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the coated onion rings in a single layer in the basket, making sure they don't overlap. You may need to cook them in batches.
Cooking Process: Air fry the onion rings at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking, until they are golden brown and crispy.
Serve: Once cooked, remove the onion rings from the air fryer and serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, ranch, or aioli.
Tips:
- Uniform Size: Try to cut the onions into uniform slices to ensure even cooking.
- Coating Technique: Use one hand for the dry coating (flour and breadcrumbs) and the other hand for the wet coating (eggs) to minimize mess and clumping.
- Don't Crowd the Basket: Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to ensure proper air circulation and crispy onion rings.
- Cook in Batches: If necessary, cook the onion rings in batches to avoid overcrowding and ensure they cook evenly.
- Serve Immediately: Onion rings are best enjoyed fresh and hot, so serve them immediately after cooking for the crispiest texture.
